Ensuring Shakespeare Excellence: Enabling Universal Access
Ensuring Shakespeare Excellence: Enabling Universal Access
**CALLING ALL ACTORS**
With a fresh approach to Shakespeare's plays, any interested actor can audition for any available role, with a gender-blind casting approach for all characters.
We especially encourage applications from traditionally under-represented groups, including LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodivergent, global majority ethnic and working class actors, and we welcome everybody who shares our enthusiasm for quality, accessible theatre to join us for a modern, dynamic 90-minuterendition of one of the Bard's dramatic histories.
Auditions will be held 7pm - 9:30pm on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st May 2024 at the Embankment pub (282-284 Arkwright St, Nottingham NG2 2GR). YOU ONLY NEED TO ATTEND ONE AUDITION.
Call-back auditions are a required attendance if you are called back, and they will take place on Sunday 26th May at the same venue (4pm - 7pm). Rehearsals will commence immediately following casting, on Tuesday 28th May 2024.
Performances are 7-17th August 2024 in and around Nottingham.
You do not need to pre-prepare any scenes or monologues, as the audition format will be an acting and voice/text workshop including cold reading(s) individually and in groups and pairs. Please arrive promptly and complete this audition form in advance to let us know your rehearsal availability, relevant experience and roles that you are interested in playing. If you have access needs which require previewing the scenes or require them in a particular format please email pr@nottinghamshakespeare.co.uk
Rehearsals will be three evenings a week in Nottingham, including tech and dress rehearsals in the run up to the performances in August.
If you would like to assist with stage management, marketing and design, social media management, fight choreography, props and costume, sound/music and lighting, as an assistant director or with any other skills, please let us know via the form (if you are auditioning), or by emailing pr@nottinghamshakespeare.co.uk with the subject heading “Henry V” if you aren’t intending to perform but still want to get involved with the Nottingham Shakespeare Company behind the scenes.
There are no costs involved to auditioning or taking part in the play, and as a grass-roots theatre company we operate on a profit-share basis for the cast of each production. Whilst we are seeking the most talented actors, there is no required level of experience, acting qualifications or professional memberships; all we ask is your dedication. If you have skills and resources you are willing to share such as driving, assistant directing, costume etc. please be aware that we will take you up on those!
We are actively inclusive of neurodiverse, disabled and LGBTQ+ audiences and actors and strive to bring Shakespeare into diverse communities. If you have any access needs please contact us on pr@nottinghamshakespeare.co.uk (NB the auditions are downstairs but we will carry wheelchairs and provide assistance should this be required).
